Mindful Muse is a series featuring amazing people who live life with authenticity and passion, and inspire others to lead more fulfilling lives as well! In this installment, we talk with certified yoga instructor and the next Yoga teacher on our upcoming Women's retreat to Aurora, NY, Danielle Radulski of Silver Lining Yoga.

What led you to become a certified yoga instructor?

Danielle Radulski Yoga

I found yoga actually though a friend - and a health scare! I was working two jobs right after I graduated college and living in NYC. I had been embracing the “life of the party” lifestyle for the past 6 years and it finally caught up with me. I went for a routine doctor appointment to find out that my liver was swollen. It was the biggest blessing in disguise because it caused me to put my health first, and really take care of myself and change my habits. After this, a friend persuaded me to come to a yoga class with her (I was hesitant) - and that was it. I was hooked. I had actually found something that made me WANT to get up early in the morning, and that made me WANT to feel good enough to do it the next day.

What do you love most about what you do?

Helping people create a sense of softness and stillness. Seeing students come in with a huge weight on their shoulders from their day, from life, from stress -and seeing them leave (Hopefully) just a little bit lighter. I also love helping people figure out that they are capable of WAY more than they think they are. Most people see a pose and think “I could never do that.” But changing that statement is the biggest and hardest part of the battle, much more than the physical aspect. Seeing my students overcome things physically and mentally is such a huge joy.

What is your biggest challenge?

Balance! I’m a bit of a work-a-holic and have a hard time saying no. I definitely don't get to as many yoga classes (to take and not teach) than I used to and that’s something that I miss. It’s hard for me to disconnect and really let myself just BE sometimes - because I’m always thinking about things that need to get done. This is something I’m constantly working on!

What inspires you to keep going when you are afraid?

Knowing that the universe has my back. I never used to really believe in this but through years of anxiety and stress I’ve come to realize that worrying about things never really gets us anywhere. Rather than harping on things and being scared to take a chance - I try to think of it as an opportunity. An experience, that even if it doesn't go right I will still learn something. I also have a deep trust that the universe has a plan - and that things always work out for a reason, we just have the find the silver lining.

What does balance mean to you and how does that manifest in your daily life?

Balance is being able to find some time (and space) in your day for yourself. Whether its 5 minutes of meditation, an extra long shower where you’re totally zoned out, or 10 minutes on your mat.. it’s all so important to keeping sanity. I make sure to try and get on my mat every single day - even if it’s for five minutes (unless my body is really sore). I work from home, too - so it’s easy to get the lines blurred between work and play. I get up really early (5AM) and usually stop checking emails by 630PM the latest. Keeping this time in my head as a cutoff- is really helpful for me in making sure that I have time to decompress, and also connect with the people around me.

Who do you look up to in your personal life and/or your business?

Oh man so many people! I really admire people who have started their own business. I have dabbled in the idea, and for the moment it’s staying as that... an idea =) It takes an immense amount of courage, dedication and discipline to do something like starting a business. I also admire traveling yoga teachers - getting to spread your gift of teaching to people around the world is such a beautiful thing.

What are the tools in your holistic toolbox?

I will admit that I am pretty simple! Green tea, lavender oil, fresh lemon on everything, natural body scrubs and a superfood shake with collagen once a day!

What’s on your nightstand?

Glasses, a reading lamp, water, a humidifier and chap stick!

If you could have one special power, what would it be and why?

Healing, and DEEP healing... like curing cancer type of healing. Health is the one thing that we cannot buy and we so often take for granted, until something scary happens. Living in the moment is such an important thing especially because health is something that we really can do our best with keeping up on, but it is ultimately out of our control.

What is your favorite ritual?

A hot cup of coffee in the morning cuddled up with my pup, boyfriend and a few minutes of quality time before the chaos of the day ensues.

What are you most looking forward to about the upcoming Mindful Mosaic Women's retreat?

Connecting! I love meeting new people and experiencing such deep things with a group. It was one of my favorite parts about my yoga teacher training. I am also excited to learn more and more about other ways of healing and how to better tap into my chakras =) I cant wait to help people deepen their retreat experience through yoga, mindfulness and meditation. It’s going to be so amazing!
